Customer Spotlight: Kansas Interscholastic Cycling League

For many, learning to ride a bike is a rite of passage, but the Kansas Interscholastic Cycling Association (KICA) believes it can be so much more than that. KICA, the newest member of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA), is building strong minds, bodies, character, and communities through cycling in the state of Kansas.

In an effort to get more Kansan kids interested in biking, the owners of Gravel City Adventure & Supply made the initial donation to register the state of Kansas with NICA, and the last 3 years have been spent building up the organization. While getting the word out to local communities and procuring more funding presents a challenge, the league has steadily grown. The Kansas NICA League is now developing cycling teams and clubs in schools throughout the state, and providing training, licensing, and insurance for coaches. In addition, the league hosts mountain biking events to encourage camaraderie and positive sporting behavior.

In order to set up these events, the Kansas NICA League needs a lot of equipment, like snow fencing, PA systems, power generators, tents, tables, and chairs. To transport their nearly 3,000 pounds of gear across the state to different events, KICA chose to purchase an enclosed trailer from Croft Trailer Supply. With help from our staff at our Olathe location, the league easily navigated the process of purchasing the trailer for a non-profit organization and received the exact trailer model they wanted brought from one of our other locations to Olathe. Now with their new trailer, the league plans on hosting 4 events this year in Augusta, Glen Elder, Emporia, and Topeka; and they plan on hosting another 5 events next year.

If you are interested in supporting this growing organization, you can donate at their website http://kansasmtb.org or https://app.etapestry.com. KICA also needs volunteers for coaches that are passionate about helping kids, and will provide training to interested parties in order to build up a strong community of cycling throughout Kansas.
